Research methodology involves BEV/PHEV, ESS, 2 & 3 wheelers and portables inputs for the EOL scrap quarterly outlook, alongside gigafactory capacity inputs for the process scrap outlook. Where necessary in the EOL and process scrap outlook, scrappage, collection and material recovery rates are applied to each application and recycling scrap numbers are calculated. Battery recycling capacity by region is broken down by facility and is also taken into consideration in these calculations. Assumptions are derived through conversations with industry experts and analysis of current and upcoming legislation in the forecast to develop Benchmark's recycling narrative.

Black mass payables are published on a fortnightly basis for NCM, LCO and LFP feedstock material, inclusive of material sourced from End-of-Life (EOL) and production scrap.
