Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger was recognised with Benchmark's inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award, for his visionary leadership in rapidly advancing clean, sustainable energy initiatives, while ensuring that the energy transition can also be a major economic driver.
The Award
The Award was presented on behalf of Benchmark by Nobel Laureate Dr. Stanley Whittingham, forefather of the lithium ion battery.

A Governor’s commitment to green energy
As the twice-elected leader of the State of California from 2003 to 2011, Governor Schwarzenegger drove the state's unrelenting commitment to green energy and environmental stewardship, signing the first-in-the-nation Global Warming Solutions Act and the Million Solar Roofs Initiative in 2006.
Schwarzenegger also issued a seminal Executive Order establishing the Low Carbon Fuel Standard. Such actions set the standard for the rest of the USA and beyond.
Arnold Schwarzenegger, through the USC Schwarzenegger Institute and the Schwarzenegger Climate Initiative, continues to work tirelessly to advance the numerous sustainable energy and environmental initiatives that he spearheaded during his tenure as Governor.
